Forums is something in the CAPS TED class to help us see what is happening in the world of teaching. We typically have to read something but every once in a while we watch a video about a teacher and their ethic in class. The following are two of those

Forums

I watched "Teacher Slaps Student in Class" and I do not condone that kind of behavior ever.

This teacher, while I do understand where she is coming from with the situation of the school, she had an outburst that teachers are not supposed to have and is unacceptable. While I understand that do to teacher having to be almost push-overs, that is why many kids tend to treat teachers how they want, her outburst on the child is not okay. I think that just throwing the desk would have been enough for him to stop what he was doing. She could have also done what she said and that was taking the special needs child out of the classroom. But she then could have come back in the classroom and just yelled at them.

As a potential future teacher, this behavior for both the child and the teacher is absolutely not okay. Whilst it is not okay to attack the student, sometimes just talking to them is not enough. I would understand if someone wanted to throw the desk (which is borderline) or yell at the student, because it is human to get mad. But to attack them…ya not okay.

On Oct. 28 I watched Adora Svitak's video. I watched it because it was assigned.

Adora begins with how adults think that everything that is unusual or not "normal" is childish. But she goes into how that couldn't be farther from the truth. Children bring just as much change to the world if not more than adults do. she talks about how adults need to learn from kids because that is what bring out true originality is those unusual thoughts. She talked about one persons glass art being changed due to him listening and seeing what kids could come up with.

I think what she talked about is very true. While the actual realistic possibility of those ideas do need to be evaluated, it is still necessary to think about and take into account the ideas of the next generation as those ideas could be the start of something new.

As a future teacher I completely agree with Adora. While working at North I did find myself to cut off some of the students ideas on their house plans of things that was different than the norm. But as I got through the day I noticed that it might be a good idea to let their ideas flow and let them think outside the box. This same thought process will continue on as a philosophy in my future teaching experiences.
